Slightly Stoopid and Cypress Hill This Weekend!
Written by Melissa Garcia

Stock up on your papers, lighters and wacko tobacco because Slightly Stoopid and Cypress Hill are in town, and are ready to throw it down. Slightly Stoopid is kicking off their "Legalize It" tour in Irvine at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater this Friday, July 16th. The smoke sesh- ahem, I mean show starts at 7:00 pm, and tickets are still on sale! So go get a pair for you and your best smoke buddy! The name of their tour explains their purpose and motivation.

The members of Slightly Stoopid are well known pro-pot promoters and are headlining the tour this year to help advocate Proposition 19; the legalization, taxation and regulation of marijuana in California. It seems as though their efforts are most definitely far from being a waste. SurveyUSA reports that prop 19 is favored 50%-40%  among 614 of those who were surveyed (Yay!).  And who better to help and assist the blaze fest , and pro-marijuana revolution than Cypress Hill? They are one of rap's biggest legends and enormous advocates for the legalization of pot. In fact, their Smoke Out Festival that they sponsor, has been going on for six years strong, bringing major talent (Sublime, Slipknot, Kottenmouth Kings ect.) together for a day of music and marijuana education.

That is, if anyone can remember what they learned the next day. If you yourself are not a supporter of Prop 19, and you're going to the show, you might be swayed in the other direction, second hand smoke is, as we all know, just as powerful as if you were cheefing the reefer yourself. By the end of the show your red eyes and positive mental outlook just might have you checking "Yes" on the ballot this November. Let's be honest, who listens to either of those artists and DOESN'T smoke? I don't know about you, but I'd love to see some of the songs from Slightly Stoopid that they recorded off their newest album "Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid". Imagine a cover of "Know You Rider" from The Grateful Dead LIVE, or an impressive version of "I Would Do For You" from the UB40's? That's just a good time PERIOD. Finally, all us Cypress Hill fans can get our ears ready, and bongs loaded, for some brand spanking new material, after six long years of them hiding from the recording studio.

Their album "Rise Up" released in April of this year, features Tom Morello from Street Sweeper Social Club and more previously of Rage Against The Machine. It'll be sweet to see some crispy songs being performed live. I haven't heard their new album but I know they also worked with Marc Anthony and Pitbull.... hmm interesting. Seems as though they are shifting their movement out of their comfort zone and into something more original. Now,I have seen both of these guys perform before at separate events a few years back. Back then, I didn't listen to any of their music at all, but their performances gave me a reason to start.

Now a fan, I can't tell you how excited I am to see them live... again!  Not only that, but I get to see some fresh acts such as Collie Buddz performing alongside them as well. It's just two days away and it feels like months, I can't wait to be smothered with the uplifting and feel good sounds of Slightly Stoopid and the get-out-of your-seat-and-move lyrical masterpieces of Cypress Hill, to easy island feel of Collie Buddz.

Hopefully it won’t be too smokey to see the stage!
